5 moles of oxygen are heated at constant volume from 10°C to 20°C. What will be the change in the internal energy of the gas? Cp of oxygen=8cal/mole C & R = 8.36 J/mole°C.

change in internal energy of the gas , ∆U = $nC_v\Delta T$

where n is number of moles of gas , $C_v$ is molar heat capacity at constant volume and ∆T is change in temperature.

we know, $C_p-C_v=R$

$C_v=C_p-R$

given, $C_p$ = 8 Cal/mol.°C

and R = 8.36 J/mol.°C or 2 Cal/mol.°C

so, $C_v=8-2=6Cal/mol.^{\circ}C$

now, change in internal energy of the gas = 5 × 6 × (20 - 10)

= 30 × 10 = 300 J

hence, answer is 300J
