यह कहावत बड़ी प्रसिद्ध है कि चिड़िया चुग गई खेत, तो पछताने से होत क्या। यह कहावत आलसी और भाग्य के भरोसे रहने वाले लोगों के लिए चरितार्थ होती है। वे लोग जीवन में अपने हर दुर्भाग्य को पूर्व जन्म का कर्म मानकर रोते रहते हैं। जो लोग दूसरों के भरोसे रहकर अपना कार्य करते हैं, वह भी समय आने पर पछताते हैं। मनुष्य को चाहिए कि अपने पुरूषार्थ के अतिरिक्त किसी अन्य का सहारा न ले। जो मनुष्य अपने भुजबल और ईश्वर पर विश्वास कर कार्य करते हैं कठिनाई उनके आगे नतमस्तक हो जाती है। ईश्वर ने मनुष्य को दो हाथ दिए हैं, जिनके सहारे मनुष्य चाहे, तो चट्टान को अपने रास्ते से हटाने का पौरुष रखता है। जापान सबसे छोटा द्विप है परन्तु उसने जो सफलता पाई है वह अद्भुत है। आज जापान हर क्षेत्र में अग्रणीय है। ऐसा वहाँ के लोगों के कठोर परिश्रम के कारण ही संभव हो पाया है। यदि वह अपनी प्रगति और विकास के लिए दूसरे देशों पर निर्भर रहता, तो वह आज इतना समृद्धशाली नहीं होता। अतः चाहिए कि भाग्य और आलस को त्याग कर मेहनत करें। वरना लोगों द्वारा सदैव यही कहा जाएगा चिड़िया चुग गई खेत, तो पछताने से होत क्या।
