Resources can be divided into four classes according to their status of development:-

1. Potential Resources:

This resources have the potential to satisfy your needs but haven't estimated and surveyed properly till now. E.g., Gujarat and Rajasthan have huge capacities to be developed in wind and solar energy,but not have been explored.

2. Developed Resources:

This have been estimated,surveyed and mapped for present usage. This depends on level of technology required and economic feasibility

3. Stock:

These are the resources that have huge potential to satisfy your needs,but we lack the required techinal know-how to access them. Example, water is a mixture of two inflammable gases,hydrogen and oxygen and can be a source of energy,but we lack the required techinal knowledge to do so.

4. Reserves:

These are sub set of stock. They are preserved for uses and needs of future generation. Example,the water flowing in forests,lakes etc is a reserve
