Why plant cells r more rigid than animal cells

Answered by admin @

The plant cells are more rigid compared to animal cells as they have cell wall.
It provides rigidity as well as protection from outer environment.
As plants are immovable they are more exposed to environmental hazards, therefore a protective covering is required. Cell wall is the outer most covering of the plant cell. Then comes the cell membrane. Due to presence of this cell wall they are protected from external injury and also remain alive in extreme temperatures. Even if the cell loses water, becomes plasmolysed, they can remain alive due to presence of cell wall and with regain of water they can become normal. Similarly, when excess water enters cell, the plant cell swells but it do not burst due to presence of wall pressure.
