Osmosis is the passage of fluid particles from a larger concentration to a lowering concentration through a partly porous layer. An illustration of osmosis can be the consumption of water particles in plants. The plant assimilates water from the ground through the manner of osmosis.

Another example is the process by which water absorbs by the sponge when a dry sponge is settled in a container of water. Water replenishes the vacant places of the sponge until the consistency inside and outside of the sponge is normalized.
